2.5 Sorting Layers

edited October 2024 in Technical Q&A

I was wondering if it was possible to add a 3d object between two background images? The first screenshot is a foreground and a background(green blurred trees) images. I have the cube as a test but would like to put birds, vehicles or other 3d objects between the two images. I've been playing with sorting layers and created three layers for each, but not luck yet.

  • Im going to try using World Space for the distance BG image.

The background image should always be drawn underneath all else, but other scene sprites (including the foreground image) in world space would be the best way - without custom shader approaches - to have 3D objects mix together with 2D.

  • Solved. I used sorting layers, Layers and a second camera to render only a certain layer. Any 3d objects I want to add behind the 2.5 BG, I just set the correct layer to the 2nd camera. Of course, as long as the 2.5 BG has an alpha.
