OK, I have been playing around.
Been fighting it, but think i have got to the root of the problem.
I should start by saying that my set-up of a char: parent with the NPC script etc on, and a child with the sprite render on.

just checked:
i think it is this object transform rotation that's the problem
the parent (which has npc script on) Y rotation goes to 270, the child (which has sprite) goes to 80 in Y....
only happens when move to point - i.e. a marker
Thank you so much. That's exactly what it was. No prefab set.
It was a small thing, but over time, it became a little annoying to repeatedly select the player. Now, no more :)

OK, update. Finally, got it working. didnt seem to like using names for previous scene... but numbers worked, how bizzare...

No joy, the character when going back to the previous scene, character didnt start at the place where he exited.
Is there another way, other than variables, cos that could get messy, and long winded.
