Camera switching and player following

I searched the forums and it seems like this is worth posting to try to understand.

I have been using AC for a few years now and I still dont fully understand the interaction of a camera following the players movement and camera switching. I always assume that if I position a camera in a location, set it to follow the player, and then later switch to that camera, that the following starts after the camera is made active. It seems like the camera follows a random point in the world relative to whereever that player was when the scene started. The result is by the time the player moves to a trigger to activate that camera, the camera is way off in the world where I dont expect.

I know my assumption is not correct, but I dont know why the cameras follow some random point in space that isnt the player.

  • Is this offset occuring only during the switch's transition, or even if you remove the transition time entirely?

    The new camera in a transition ought to snap itself to its intended position just before the switch occurs. Are you working with the standard AC Camera types and Actions?

    As this is a visual issue, any screenshots and/or video you can share of both the issue, and your setup, will help illustrate the situation.

    This happens to any camera I put in the scene and is using follow. I ran some tests and realized its just that cameras will follow the player all the time, whether or not that camera is active.

    Example:
    Point A, B and C are equally spaced from each other in a line, and player start is at point A.
    If I want Camera1 to follow the player from point A to point B, then Camera2 to follow the player from point B to point C, I would set up Camera 2 to point at point B where the trigger is. By the time the player gets to the point B trigger and the camera transition happens, Cam2 will have moved all the way to point C, while the player is all way back at point B.

    My assumption was cameras would only follow when active but it seems they all move whether active or not. It makes it more difficult to set up cameras ahead of time but I'll have to keep playing with it.

    Components are Camera, Universal Additional Camera Script, Game Camera. This is 3d.
