Panning sound of text scroll override audio clips

edited April 2023 in Technical Q&A

Hello and thank you for a very useful tool.

For my characters voices I am relying solely on "text scroll override" audio clips. I am now trying to figure out how to pan these sounds left/right relating to where the characters are in the scene. I understand that the "Default sound" in scene settings is used to play these clips as I notice the audio panning when I change this in the default sound prefab in the scene. Is there a way to change "Default sound" on the go in the action list, or how should I go about doing this?

2D-game. Unity version 2018.2.12f1 and AC version 1.71.8

Thank you!

  • Welcome to the community, @Lynx.

The top of the Speech Manager has a Speech scroll audio is field. When set to Speech, scrolling audio will be played from the character's Speech AudioSource, if assigned in their Inspector.

You can enable panning by setting this AudioSource's Spatial Blend to 1, i.e., 3D.

  • Thank you for your answer. I cannot find Speech scroll audio is in my version of AC. Perhaps it has been added later on.

Ah, you're right - it was introduced in v1.73.2.

After backing up your project, import the latest release from the Package Manager to get the field. Just be mindful of the "Upgrade notes" sections in the Changelog for the versions since.
