Moving to the next scene

Hello All,

I have just finished working my way through the 2D tutorial. I made a second scene using the same assets and figured out how to move to it by following the instructions in the 3D tutorial. This means I trigger the scene switch through an interaction. I would like to move to another scene without an interaction. I have found some tutorials on how to do this in Unity by writing some code that generates a switch based on 2D colliders. However, I am hoping that there is a way of doing this within AC, without needing any code.

If anybody has any ideas (even if they involve code...a link to a snippet perhaps?😉)I would be soooo grateful.

P.s.
I am an extreme newbie. My husband was teaching me how to use a mouse in January and I’m currently working my way through “HOW TO USE YOUR PC/Mac/iPad beginners tutorials. Please talk to me as though I’m new to Earth (which is exactly how it feels to be a dinosaur attempting to go digital🦖💻). Many thanks, again.

  • Welcome to the community, @Sereninthecity.

You can switch to a different scene using the Scene: Switch Action. This will work in any type of ActionList - you're not limited to Hotspot Interactions.

Are you looking to switch based on the Player's position, i.e. when they move to a certain portion of the screen?

If so, you can do this with a Trigger. A Trigger is an area in the scene that you can use to run Actions when the Player (or some other object) gets close enough to it. Triggers can be added from the Scene Manager, under the Logic panel.

This technique is covered in video form here.

  • Hi, Chris (I know in the forum rules/guidelines it says not to use your name, but as I am actually replying to you it felt weird to address everyone),

Thank you for the welcome and for the very swift response. I apologize for being far less organised. I have not tried this out yet, but am very grateful for the advice...and hope to have the time - very soon - to give it a go.

    Great product. Great service.

    Stay safe, sane, and well!
