Playing with cameras. Difference between influence and offset?

Hi all. Another newbie question here!

I've been messing around with the cameras and trying to get a handle on them. I have the X-axis unlocked and the target set to the player's X position, with the intent of having the camera follow the player. I've been playing with the settings trying to figure out what they all do. As far as I can tell, the "Influence" and "offset" numbers do the exact same thing? The manual doesn't tell me anything except to say "You can set the influence and offset with these." What exactly are they?

Thanks in advance!

  • Essentially, it's y = mx + c, where:

    y = The camera's position
    m = Influence
    x = The target's position
    c = Offset

    Just so you're aware, custom cameras can also be made through the use of scripting - see the Manual's "Custom cameras" chapter for more.

  • Hi Chris. That helps! Thank you.
