Move character from one Nav Mesh to another.

Hi guys :)

I have several levels in my scene - platform and scaffoldings. I want my player could jump from one level to another and back. I am using Unity Navigation system and as an example, just to test how it works, I did 2 NavMeshSegments - one for the platform and second for scaffoldings and I've baked these 2 NavMeshSegments.

Right now my character has quite a simple animator with idle and walk. I am using a simple Timeline which has a game camera and jump animation for my character with easy out transition because I want character back to his original idle animation but on second level. I've placed trigger with Control Timeline that calls Timeline with jump animation. So when my player hits this trigger everything works fine and I can see jump animation and as it supposed to be at the end of Timeline sequence my character back to idle pose. But at the same time character fall through the scaffoldings and back to his original position to the first level instead of stay on the second.

I don't know in what direction I should look for. How to force my character to stay on the second level after timeline sequence is finished? Is this something about Nav Mesh or it's more about animation/animator/timeline? It looks like a simple task but I don't know in what direction I should move. Please help me guys. Master Chris any suggestion, advices?

This is more of a question about Timeline's behaviour, and it's something I've encountered myself when looking into updating AC's integration with it. You should also be asking on the Unity forums, as I don't think this is an issue caused by AC.

So far as I understand it, your animation / Animator will need to rely on root motion (at least during this sequence), so that the changes made to the character's position are retained on the GameObject after Timeline as finished.

  • Thank you Chris! I thought about this and I think the best way is just to teleport character to the second level and make a black screen with easy in and easy out.
