Ok, this is a pretty silly question, but I prefer to ask it anyway, rather than risking...
When I attach a Polygon Collider 2D component to a hotspot, can I remove the pre-existent box collider? Or this can cause problems?

You can - the provided box collider is just there for convenience.
Be sure to check Is Trigger on the new collider though, so that it doesn't interfere with collision.
