Long audio subtitles

edited April 2018 in Technical Q&A
Hi,
in my adventure I have a long song with lyrics. Do you have any idea or advice as to how to put subtitles on screen while the song is running (also with translation)

Comments

  • A Cutscene or ActionList asset's When running field can be set to Run In Background so that it doesn't block gameplay, if you want the song to play in the background.

A series of Dialogue: Play speech Actions with Engine: Wait Actions in between should be enough.  If you check Play in background? on the speech Actions, then you can use the Engine: Wait Actions to properly time exactly when each line should trigger.  It may take a bit of trial and error, but you should be able to use this to trigger each line at the right time.

Dialogue speech can be translated and linked to audio via the Speech Manager.

To prevent the speech lyrics intefering with the rest of your game's subtitles, create a special invisible NPC that is used to play the speech.  You can then create a separate "Lyrics" variant of your Subtitles Menu, and set its For speakers of type property to Specific Characters Only - this way, you can have this new Menu only display for your special NPC that does the singing / speaking.
  • yep! Thanks
