Is it possible to not have black BG on loading menu option?

I have created a loading menu to appear when the next scene is loading. Is it possible to have the current scene still in view with an overlayed 'Loading graphic' without the BG going black?

Afraid not.  The current scene must be hidden while AC loads in order to mask data being changed.  You can make use of loading screens, however.
