Can't use original language

I'm having some problems with my subtitles. I did a major rewrite of the dialog by creating a translation and rewriting the lines in the new language and disabling the original language from being used. Now, after updating my project to the latest AC (1.51) the speech seems to be jumbled quite a bit, with wrong lines in a lot of scenes.

I'm thinking about just rewriting the dialog in the original files instead of dabbling with translations, but discovered that even if I disable "Prevent original language from being used" I still get the jumbled translation from Language #1. I don't want to delete the translation language as all my new dialogue is in that file. How can I force the game to use the original language when this setting is not working?

  • The issue will be to fix the setting, rather than force a workaround.  When you say jumbled, what do you mean exactly?  Are the ID numbers associated with the wrong lines?

If you disable the "original language" option, you may still have to manually return the game to the original language as the default - which is done by setting the Language value to 0 at the bottom of the Settings Manager.
  • Thanks for the super quick reply. Yes, ID numbers are off by some amount. I've noticed that before, so it might just be my project that is problematic. I'm just gonna do everything properly this time and edit the actual actions containing subtitles so I don't run into more problems (I'm up to 55+ scenes and hundreds and hundreds of lines of text! :) )

I'm using this tool from @szoi from this thread to edit my actions, so much quicker:

Thanks for pointing me to the Settings Manager, I had missed the original language setting there.
  • Not being an official tool, I can't guarantee that isn't the cause.  Then again, I also don't want to accuse it unfairly.

The only possibly-related change to speech IDs in v1.51 that I can think of is a fix regarding the ID-sharing features for duplicate lines (ie. lines that have the same speaker and speech text).  Do you make use of that feature?
  • Sorry if I was unclear, I didn't use that tool until after I realised the jumbled dialogue lines, so that is not the cause. I did have a similar problem a few versions ago, so I don't think it's any specific 1.51 problem. I did get to update all my lines today with the aforementioned tool, and it worked very well. I have not used the duplicate lines feature you mention.
  • OK.  Please let me know if you find clear steps to recreate any issue.
