Subtitle menu functionality

I have asked a related question before on...
http://www.adventurecreator.org/forum/discussion/3858/conversation-triggered-by-menu-working-but-weird#latest

BUT this is a bit simpler and still I cant get it working.

I want a kind of "film letterbox" style to my game, with the semi transparent black inventory area at the top, permanently open. (no problem getting that to work)
And I want the Subtitle menu to look exactly the same as the inventory menu, but at the bottom, creating a kind of letterbox shape for the game.

However, I HAVE managed to get the subtitle menu to remain open, but when I do (similar to the other threads problem) the text from a subtitle REMAINS there until a new one appears. instead of turning off after a few seconds. I need it to display the black background box ALL THE TIME, and only the text when there is speech.

I HAVE TRIED... to create a blank empty menu item to sit on the bottom the whole time to create the black area, and wanted to display the subtitle menu on top (but with the black background removed). However, there is a layering problem, as the text from subtitle menu is underneath the black background. Re-ordering the menu list in the editor DOES NOT FOR ME, re-arrange the layering... is this correct?
(I have the same problem with the InGame menu, its underneath the black area of the subtitle menu, and I want it above)

Thanks!!

  • Re-ordering the Menus in the Menu Manager should indeed change their display order - provided that you're using Adventure Creator as their source.  If you are using Unity UI, you'll have to tweak the sorting order values instead.

You should be able to clear subtitle text once a speech line has finished by unchecking Retain subtitle text buffer once line has ended? in the Speech Manager.
