Isometric 2D games with AC?

My aim is to create an isometric adventure game, similar to the look and feel of classic RPG's like Fallout 1/2 and Ultima 7.
I'd like to know before I purchase AC: is it applicable to create isometric games with a more open-ended world structure? 
(I do have the tilesets and sprites to pull it off.)

  • If by open-ended you mean large scenes, AC certainly doesn't "cap" the maximum number of objects etc., but each scene is assumed to be separate: i.e. scenes aren't together, so your open world would have to be one large scene.

    What about an isometric perspective? Would I need to create a custom controller?
  • I shouldn't think so - Direct control movement should still work with Orthographic cameras.
