Local coop like Overcooked

Hi Chris,

I wish you happy New Year!

I'm just curious if is possible to make with AC a local cooperative game for 2 players for example a game like Overcooked?

I'm using AC for years and I know it's primary for one player..

I can imagine control second player with custom script but interactions with AC hotspots could be harder... and there are so many other things I can't imagine now..

So if you could think about it, if there's some posibility or workaround for that...? Two players on local computer with AC?

Thanks and I wish you good health!

You could potentially leverage existing Hotspots and Interactions, but you'd need to script an entirely custom Hotspot detection and run system that allows for multiple Hotspots to be selected and run independently. By design, AC only allows for a single Hotspot to be interacted with at a time.

This would go beyond the guidance outlined in the Manual's "Custom interaction systems" chapter, because that all relies on AC's existing Interaction system. You'd need to go a "level deeper" and bypass all of that in favour of manually detecting Hotspots, extracting their Interaction data, and running their Interaction ActionLists.

For a co-op game like Overcooked, I would strongly recommend instead using an asset that's dedicated to that kind of gameplay.

  • Thanks for the fast answer, ok, I taught it would be dificult.. I'll take a look on the other assets, I saw some but they aren't as complex as AC and I know AC very well now so maybe I'm lazy to learn something new a little bit:-)

AC is complex tool for me to create whole adventure without coding (almost) so I'm really happy with this setup - but it's single player way only..

There are other possibilities like to have one Player and enable switching to NPCs so Player can control NPC (but not to control Player at the same time) or to have some buddy, but it's not pure coop.

For me ideally would fit some solution/asset for coop which work together with AC but it's impossible, I know:-(

OK, thanks again Chris and have a nice day!
