No Linked Canvas can be found

edited October 20 in Technical Q&A

Hi
First time using AC, I'm following the video tutorial on setting up a 3D game, after I set the scene as AC scene and then entered play mode I got these errors in the picture, I managed to fix the cursor by manually assigning the cursor prefab, and I probably the player error will be fixed after assigning a player, but didn't quite manage to understand what's happening in "no Linked canvas can be found" errors. Note that I'm using Unity version 2021.3.45f2

  • Welcome to the community, @hsnsns.

The messages relate to the setup of your Menus in the Menu Manager.

When a Menu's Source is set to Unity Ui Prefab, it'll rely on a UI Canvas prefab - built using Unity's UI components - for its display.

This prefab needs to be assigned in the Menu's Linked Canvas prefab field, at the bottom of its Properties box.

Did these messages show after running the New Gme Wizard? The default interface ought to include such prefabs for all Menus automatically.

If they've become unset, check the UI subfolder of the game directory that the New Game Wizard created for you - i.e. the parent directory of the Managers folder where your game's Manager assets are stored. The UI prefabs for each of the default Menus should be stored there, i.e. InventoryUI for the Inventory menu etc. If you manually re-assign each prefab to its respective Menu, they should display properly again.

    Hi
Thanks for the reply. Yes, these messages show after running the New Game Wizard, for some reason the prefabs were not assigned and I had to assign them manually, it's working now. I still didn't find in the UI folder the prefabs for the last three menus: CutsceneBorders, GraphicOptions, and Title.

  • Apologies for the hassle, but glad they're working now.

The UI folder holds the prefabs for the default interface. CutsceneBorders, GraphicOptions and Title are all from additional Templates, and their prefabs are in separate subfolders alongside UI in the Project's hierarchy.

  • Ah ok got it now, thank you for your time!
