Your first person character's root object can have an Animator attached that can animate a body mesh in the same way that a third-person character does.
It's a bit crude, since the head mesh is there, but you can see an example of this with Tin Pot, the Demo game's Player character - as they are equipped with a First Person Camera child.
If you drop Tin Pot into your scene and run it, they'll temporarily override your own Player prefab - their body will be visible and animating as normal, while still being in first-person.
