LucasArts style preset camera framing pans

edited August 2023 in Technical Q&A

A neat thing I noticed in MI is that when the camera pans, it's not a free scrolling camera, the camera goes to the next preset position so that framing is controlled. How can this be achieved in AC?

I'm currently using "Side scrolling" which pans the camera to always follow the Player, but I don't have control of framing.

  • You can create a second camera, that is locked in position where you want the scene to be framed, and switch to it when the player approaches that part of the scene.

Place a Trigger in the area of the scene that should use the new camera, and then use the Camera: Switch Action to have the game switch to the second camera when the Player enters it.

To have the game return to the original camera, attach an additional AC_Trigger component to the same Trigger object, set its Trigger type to On Exit, and use another Camera: Switch Action.

This technique of using cameras and triggers is covered in the 3D Primer tutorial here - the technique is the same for 2D and 3D.

  • Thanks, will look into it!

Btw. having you here in the fourm is surely one of the killer features of AC! Appreciate your support and patience!
