Do asset bundles and addressable require custom scripting?

I've been trying to read and understand asset bundles and addressables, but not clear if these processes require custom scripting, or if all AC users should switch to using addressables? I haven't done any custom scripting for saving/loading assets.

Thanks for any clarification.

  • Addressables are entirely optional - there's no strict need to switch to them.

Whether scripting is necessary or not depends on the context.

If you're using them for speech audio, AC will handle things itself. AC can also rely on addressables for scene names if Load scenes from Addressables? is checked, which then allows you to enter in an addressable Scene's key into Scene: Switch Actions.

When it comes to bundles, these are only automated by AC for speech audio. For any other usage, e.g. storing groups of scenes, its up to the user when bundles are loaded and so custom scripting is required.

  • Thanks Chris!
