Parenting - Draggables

Hello!
I have three technical questions,
is there any serious drawback in moving draggables, tracks, hotspots and actions out of their hierarchy default AC parents and placing them as children of other objects?

Is there any way to avoid the wrong rotation in preview for hinge based draggables?

With certain frontal camera angles, a hinge draggable refuses to move, why is it so and can it be fixed?

Thank you.

  • Scene folders are just there for convenience, and parenting draggables / tracks to other objects is very often necessary to get the results you want - in a test I once made, I made a Hinge draggable out of the kickstand of a bike, which was parented to the bike itself.  No problems there.

What do you mean by the "wrong rotation"?  And you'll need to be very clear about "certain frontal camera angles".  If you can post screenshots of what you mean, that'd be very helpful.
  • Hi Chris, thank you for being always so active and kind, I wish I could up-vote you more than once on the store.
I managed to solve the rotation issue, the objects were appearing rotated differently in preview mode and in the editor, I was following an old tutorial;I started playing around with values and parenting and now everything is the same in preview and play.

About hierarchy, thank you! That's exactly what I hoped for :) I tend to parent a lot to keep the scene tidy.

Draggables vary in sensitivity, I guess it depends on camera_position\object_position\object_size , if that's correct, is there a way to make the dragging speed value constant to screen space?

  • It should generally be 1:1 if your Rigidbody's mass is also 1.  Meaning that the mouse cursor would always be over the same "click point" on the mesh.  Is that not the case?
  • They both have max speed - 10
    Mass 1 Drag 1 Angular Drag 0.5.
I tried both with Allign drag vector on or off.
The bottom left and bottom right doors and the tall door on the right are fast to open, the two doors on the center top are slow, I would like to understand what am I doing wrong...

By the way Chris, the draggables are awesome, thank you for having implemented such a feature.
  • The distance between the camera and the "grab point" has an influence, but since the two cupboards are similar distance away it shouldn't be that noticable.  You might have to send this one over so I can look at it myself - draggables are way to complex to try to decipher through posts like this.  If you can strip everything in your scene / project except just that needed to show the problem (including AC and any unnecessary graphics), then PM it to me.

Hi Chris, sorry for not answering, I had a very busy time, a painful story involving dentists.
Atm I'm resolving some other issues within the project, it'd be difficult to strip my file until I reach some milestones; I do understand that you can't assist me without the files, I'll be back to the topic more less in a week, if it's fine for you.
