Starting dialogue with different dialogue menu

Hi all

I know I've done this before but can someone remind me; how can I change the menu used for a dialogue?

My normal dialogue (player to NPC) uses the default Conversation menu. However I want the player to have a dialogue with a computer, and for that I want to change the dialogue menu to one based on the canvas of the computer screen. However due to age and lack of sleep I can't remember how to set the conversation menu for a particular Dialogue node.

Can someone prompt me?

  • Ignore this. Being a dullard

  • Actually, I still have an issue, do don't ignore this :)

I'm trying to get this conversation showing in a certain menu, but the default Conversation menu keeps showing. You can see the issue in the screenshots below. I'm using Open in Set Element in the Start Conversation node, and it showing the new menu (the smaller of the buttons on the screenshot) but the default conversation is still showing (the larger of the buttons on the screenshot).

In the Conversation menu there doesn't appear to be a way to exclude certain characters from the Conversation menu as there is in the Subtitles menu.

Any ideas how I can disable the default conversation menu for certain conversations? I've tried using Menu State Turn Off but that doesn't turn it off, or if it does, the act of starting the conversation turns it on.

I could set the default one to appear on Manual via code, and then change it back afterwards, but this would mean controlling it in most conversations for the sake of a few.

  • You're on the right track. Use the Menu: Change state Action's Lock Menu command - locking a Menu prevents it from showing when its regular "Appear type" condition is met.
