Action List Editor - The wish list

Hi Chris,

I've a few requests/ a wishlist for the ActionList Editor, being a major part of the workflow.
In my opinion, a few tweaks and updates, would provide lots of efficiencies.

Probably ranked in order of usefulness:

1) Group features: Ability to rename groups, Add a group comment and collapse/expand a group
2) Save favourite GROUPS: so you can recall a whole bunch of actions then just hook in a wire to top and bottom
3) Stop autoselection text in an input box. I frequently click on a block of dialogue text to correct a spelling, start typing and realise I've deleted and typed over the whole paragraph. With no UNDO for this i regularly lose work like this.
4) Actionlist Tabs: So the actionlist editor window can have tabs (like browser tabs) along the top for named actionslists, meaning you can quickly jump between different actionlists without leaving the editor, and having to hunt down unity objects in a different scene. Ideally with option to close/pin tabs and maybe search for any actionlist project wide.
5) Rename Favourites: so you can give recognisable names to your saved favourite actions on the dropdown menu.
6) Auto arrange selected: Gives a choice of verticle or horizontal, to again help with neatness of groups, and long lists
7) Have wire entry/exit options: Enter the TOP MIDDLE of an action (instead of top left) or allow a choice of left or right or top to bottom wires
8) Group bounding box to automatically resize if you expand/collapse actions within it.(it currently only does it when you reselect the group)

I realise the whole list is a lot to ask, but a few of these would really help organise, tidy and speed up working in the editor. As games get bigger, alot of time is spent hunting actionlists, then hunting actions and having to untangle collapsed and messy lists.

It's my Birthday this week - perhaps it could be a gift, or even for christmas

Thanks for all the great work
Andi

  • Some good suggestions here, thanks!

Groups can currently be renamed by right-clicking their headers.

Related to Tabs: if you check Allow multiple Editors? in the Actions Manager, each ActionList you open will appear in a separate window that can be docked alongside one another.

  • Thanks Chris - hopefully some of these might squeeze into the next update.

    A couple of points:
When I right click the header of a group I don't get any option to rename it?
If I dock multiple action list tabs in the same window, theyre all called "action List editor", having their name on the tab would be great!

    Cheers
    Andi

  • When I right click the header of a group I don't get any option to rename it?

What's your AC version? Does the context menu show, but not show the option to delete, or not show at all? The context menu should provide options to delete, rename, auto-arrange, and set the group's colour.

  • Its 1.84.3

I get the context menu but with no options to do with the group.

If I disconnect the wire coming into the first action inside the group and try again, I sometimes get the menu options, but its sporadic.

It seems to be related to the zoom level of the actionlist editor window - could be something to do with my ultrawide monitor resolution, but if i zoom all the way in the group header does appear to render slightly differently (It jumps a few pixels) they when i right click i get the menu options for the group.

Happy to update version and try again, if that helps

  • I've just seen you've released a 1.85.1 yesterday- and a few of these requests have made it in - you're an absolute star!! thanks Chris

I'll update now and let you know if this zoom based group setting bug still exists.

  • Same issue in 1.85.1, definately related to the zoom level.

If it helps I use middle mouse to drag around (reversed) and scroll the middle mouse to zoom in.

At the maximum zoomed in level the group settings appear on right click, a few zoom levels back they stop appearing.

    Hope this helps

  • Recreated, thanks - I'll see this gets fixed.
