Trouble with inventory system when using ‘Choose Hotspot Then Interaction’

Hi friends,

I’m getting back into using Adventure Creator and I’ve run into a snag while putting together a game mockup. I’m trying to create a basic system modeled after DOTT where you click on an item, an interaction menu pops up, you click the use button to save the item to your inventory, and upon clicking on the item in your inventory the cursor ‘carries’ it so you can combine it with other items in your inventory (not drag and drop). The problem is, when I use ‘Choose Hotspot Then Interaction’, the items that come into my inventory are no longer responsive; the interaction menu pops up when I hover over the items, but clicking on the buttons (use and look, and I’ve programmed the look button to give a line of dialogue which does not appear once the item is in inventory but works normally outside of it) or the item itself does nothing.
If anyone would be able to help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome back, @StitchesStitches.

Are you looking for Items in the Inventory to have an Interaction menu popup, or should this only be for Hotspots?

If you want to remove the use of an Interaction menu for Inventory items, just set the Inventory interactions field in the Settings Manager to Single.

If the menu is preferred, be sure to check Select item if Interaction is unhandled? underneath, and set the Use Icon underneath that. In your Item's properties, you can then create a new "Use" interaction (but not assign an ActionList) to have it automatically select the Item when that Interaction is run.

If you're finding that Interactions aren't running for Items, share screenshots of your Item properties, the Settings Manager, and the Menu Manager (both the Inventory and Interaction menus), as well as let me know your AC/Unity versions, and I'll see if I can spot what's wrong.
