Under which circumstances is "ActionList on start game" called exactly?

edited March 2020 in Technical Q&A

I am not entirely clear on this one, Chris - does this refer to the game or the game executable / app or to both?

I know this cutscene runs on the very first launch of an app / a game, but what about after …

  1. Engine: End game -> Quit game
  2. Engine: End game -> Load autosave
  3. Engine: End game -> Restart scene (probably not)
  4. Engine: End game -> Restart game (probably)

… and especially when …

  1. app gets launched again after some time
  2. player quitting/killing app, launching it again
  3. app gets lauched after app update by the publisher, while player is in the middle of the game

Thanks!

  • It's part of the "AC initialisation" process - so is run when the first "AC" scene in your game is opened.

Engine: End game -> Quit game

    No.

Engine: End game -> Load autosave

    No.

Engine: End game -> Restart scene (probably not)

    No.

Engine: End game -> Restart game (probably)

    Yes.

app gets launched again after some time

    Yes.

player quitting/killing app, launching it again

    Yes.

app gets lauched after app update by the publisher, while player is in the middle of the game

On mobile? If the app is restarted, then yes.

    Perfect – thank you!

To clarify the background of this question from my end:
I've been looking for a "100% save way" to update a global var N in my game containing the number of available levels (which may increase over time if the game finds an audience).
While I can increase the number of levels via an update, I cannot simply overwrite/update the value of N … except through an actionlist with a variable: set action that gets automatically run when the game app gets opened again on the player's device.

    Thanks again, Chris
