Simple RPG possible with AC?

Hello (and Happy new year :) ).

I've been wanting to create an adventure game with a bit of a combat involved but nothing more than just the character using a melee weapon in some situations (think about Veil of Darkness or quest for glory with a simple adventure game inventory so the weapon is selected and used as an inventory item), so there would only be a health bar, a melee weapon or two with fixed simple box collision damage and the aggressive character that attacks when the player gets close to it with his health bar as well.

I was playing a bit with UniRPG, it seems interesting but It lacks on documentation, I don't think it's compatible with AC and I would prefer to work mostly with Adventure Creator since it has most of what I need and I'm more familiar with, but I wanted to know if such a thing like the bit of combat could be achieved within AC, if so, could I have some pointers on how could I achieve this?. Or is there a tool that is compatible with AC that can handle this while using the AC inventory items?.

  • I'd say it's definitely possible, and even desirable if you don't have much in the way of programming experience. I know I'd certainly use AC as the base from which to work if I was making a simple RPG. I do however recommend that you also take a look at PlayMaker for access to some more advanced features, and maybe some sort of other character controller for movement.

In terms of combat, AC could easily handle something like that of Quest for Glory. Really it's just a matter of setting up the correct actions and animations. Handling variables for damage, HP, XP, etc. is very easy, and translating those to menu elements is also straightforward.
